A boss who clearly does not let his workers drink water in a working environment such as that has no respect for his workers. But thats merely all they were to him, workers. He never respected them as anything else nor did he acknowledge the hard work they did daily for low pay.
There was an capacious amount of racism and dehumanization that took place among the Mexicans from fellow American citizens. Even young Mexican American children suffered at take when trying to get an education to make a bring up for them. An educator is already giving a label to a young Mexican American citizen at school. They reason Mexican Americans children went to school was to break out their lives for the future, not to be labeled.
Mexican Americans wanted to be legitimate by Anglo citizens. They wanted to feel a sense of belongingness in America, because this is where most of them were born. America was their only home. The way Rivera ended the book had a deeper significance. The little boy represented Mexican Americans everywhere, wafture to other American citizens. Letting them know that they are here, they are making an impact, and things will change.
