The Last Lovely City, by Alice Adams, is a tragic story. Dr. Benito Zamora, loses his married woman Elizabeth and is feeling the affects of her being gone. Zamora is having a lot of flashbacks involving Elizabeth.
Dr. Benito Zamora, an acknowledged winner both in this country and his native Mexico (219) is now a sadhearted widower. (219) Dr. Zamora has recently lost his wife, Elizabeth. But, it seems as he is already toil many to forget her by going out with other women, to analyse his mind away. In the beginning of the story, he is driving slightly Stinson Beach, California with a women named Carla. As they emerge from the woods, Dr. Zamora has one of his many flashbacks involving Elizabeth. Dr. Zamora often came to Stinson from San Francisco on Sundays for lunch parties, first as a semi-sought after bachelor...and later, less often, with his bride, the fairest of them any, his wife, his lovely blonde. Elizabeth died five months ago, in April. After she died, all of Zamoras colleagues were predictably generous, but that quickly disappeared and he started to feel alone.
